THE SKIN
Touch the World
Millions of dollars are spent each year by woman on cosmetics to keep them looking young and beautiful. Of course it is a good idea to keep the skin clean and protected from the harsh effects of the environment, especially the sun. In reality though, there is only so much that can be done from the outside. To really look how you feel is a matter of getting down to the nitty gritty and look at what may be swept under the carpet!
Whenever I look through one of the many fashion magazines with the glamorous French models who are the envy of many woman, I look in their eyes from an Iridology point of view. It is in the Iris of these people that can be seen the worn out nervous system, the fast food eaten on the run and the partying till all hours of the night life in the fast lane, perhaps not so wonderful on the inside. The thick make up they wear covers up a myriad of sins. Covering up things under the carpet is ok for a while but who likes to have to resort the "polyfilla" every morning! When viewed constructively skin problems are a sign that all is not well inside the body and covering it up becomes a half measure. Using Iridology, the science of studying the iris, a Naturopath can discover where the real problem originates from and then give sound advice to the person with the skin complaint as to what measures to take to heal the problem completely.
Generally speaking, skin complaints have more than one contributing factor. This is one of the reasons why many complaints of this nature are stubborn to conventional treatments, especially when Cortisone creams have to be resorted to. These Corticosteroid creams do a good job of relieving symptoms, which is a God send for many people but, do not consider them to be treating the real cause of the problem. I encourage people to use these creams sparingly and in conjunction with treatments to properly heal the condition.
One of the two main contributing factors which form part of many skin problems is the state of the nervous system of the person concerned. There are millions of nerve endings in the skin which help us perceive our environment. When a person becomes aggravated this can set up a reflex condition in the skin. The over reaction internally is reflected on the outside layer of the skin. "He went red with embarrassment," "She broke out in a cold sweat of fear", "You're really getting under my skin". These are just a few of the emotional/nervous reactions which can effect the skin, others may be more subtle. I have noticed that many people who suffer skin ailments especially on the face do worry what other people think of them and this makes for a very vicious circle, they say "If I didn't look like this I wouldn't feel so self-conscious" Bach remedies, a system of herbal medicine which are used to treat the attitudinal and emotional sides of complaints, can help here to lift the person's self esteem and break this cycle.
Poor elimination is another major contributing factor. The skin is often referred to as the third kidney for many waists are excreted from the body through the skin. When this flow becomes impeded or blocked, rubbish builds up under the skin, cysts and carbuncles may form underneath and what is released to the skin surface may burn and irritate. This is also where the bowels and kidneys come into the picture. When either of them are not having the garbage man call every day, the glad bags build up inside the house and may have to be thrown out the windows (the skin) instead. "Not going" everyday puts a massive pressure on the whole of the system and more so if the skin is already clogged. Resorting to laxatives everyday without a look at your diet may not be treating the whole problem either just putting it off a bit longer. If you are a "grown up" and not consuming 6-8 glasses of liquid a day then you're doing the washing up inside your body with only half a sink of water!
So it's easy, drink up and you may not have to cover up!
